Second Photobook Journey #1: A New Beginning
Hey all!
So, about two years ago, I published my first photo book, "Infinite Dreams." Since then, I've done some self-reflection, considering my current life and how I view photography. This led me to start working on my second photo book.
I've titled this new project "Constant Flux" in English, or "生生流轉" (せいせいるてん) in Japanese. I love the phrase "Constant Flux" because it captures the idea of continuous change and movement, reflecting the dynamism and unpredictability in photography. Interestingly, this phrase also appears as a water-breathing technique called "生生流轉" in one of my favorite anime, Demon Slayer. In the anime, water breathing is portrayed as flexible and versatile, which resonates with how I currently feel as a film photographer.
The main theme of this photo book is discovering new joys in film photography. Previously, I focused mainly on street photography, but now I find great pleasure in capturing landscapes, sunsets, and random snaps of scenery. This is a significant shift for me, considering that just a year ago before I started this, I was deeply into street photography. Through this book, I want to tell the story of why and how I've changed, using my photos as the narrative.
For my first photo book, I used Amazon Publisher for production. This time, I want to approach the creation and publishing process more seriously and appropriately. So, last year, I prepared my first formal proposal in Japanese and sent it to four publishers. One of them responded, and it looks like I'll be working with them to produce my second photo book.
Currently, I'm gathering photos from the past year, taking new shots, and planning the book's design and layout. I plan to write articles like this to share the progress of my second photo book. I hope for your support as I embark on this journey.
